Setting Up Autofill in Your Browser
Configure SafeVault's autofill feature to automatically log in to websites and fill in forms with one click.
What Is Autofill?
Autofill lets SafeVault automatically fill in your username and password on websites, so you never have to type credentials manually. It works across all major browsers through the SafeVault extension.
Installing the Browser Extension
Before you can use autofill, install the SafeVault extension:
- Open your browser's extension/add-on store
- Search for SafeVault
- Click Add to Browser and confirm the permissions
- Sign in to the extension with your SafeVault account
Enabling Autofill
Autofill is enabled by default after installing the extension. To verify or adjust:
- Click the SafeVault icon in your browser toolbar
- Go to Settings → Autofill
- Make sure Enable autofill is toggled on
Autofill Options
- Auto-submit forms: Automatically submit login forms after filling (optional)
- Show autofill icon in fields: Display a small SafeVault icon inside login fields
- Default identity for forms: Set a default identity for address and payment forms
Using Autofill
On Login Pages
- Navigate to a website where you have saved credentials
- Click on the username or password field
- SafeVault displays your saved logins for that site
- Click the correct entry to fill in both fields
Saving New Passwords
When you log in to a site for the first time:
- Enter your credentials manually
- SafeVault detects the login and shows a Save prompt
- Click Save to store the credentials in your vault
Multiple Accounts
If you have more than one account on a site, SafeVault shows all matching entries. Select the one you want to use.
Disabling Browser's Built-in Password Manager
To avoid conflicts, disable your browser's built-in password manager:
- Chrome: Settings → Passwords → Offer to save passwords → Off
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Logins and Passwords → uncheck all
- Safari: Preferences → AutoFill → uncheck all
- Edge: Settings → Passwords → Offer to save passwords → Off
Troubleshooting
If autofill isn't working on a specific site:
- Make sure the extension is unlocked (click the SafeVault icon to check)
- Try refreshing the page
- Check that you have saved credentials for that domain
- Some sites use non-standard login forms — try right-clicking the field and selecting SafeVault → Fill
